Imagine a school where your child will be excited to learn Hebrew skills, to gain a deep understanding of Conservative Judaism, and to develop a connection to prayer, spirituality and the Jewish people. A school that allows each child to reach their potential and caters to their individual learning styles and skillsets.
Congregation Beth Torah is that school.
Partnership with Institute for Southern Jewish Life
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Institute for Southern Jewish Life. The Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) provides educational and rabbinic services to Southern Jewish communities, documents and preserves the rich history of the Southern Jewish Experience, and promotes a Jewish cultural presence and community engagement throughout a thirteen-state region. This partnership provides us with a phenomenal spiral curriculum, a network of programming resources, and access to speakers and trips that will benefit all ages and stages of Jewish learners in our congregation.
Teen Program Improvements
We are making needed improvements to our teen program by offering two tracks for our teens to allow them an opportunity to choose a Madrichim (community helper) track and a modified Walk through the Siddur Program. We would start on Sundays at 9:00 AM at a Learner’s Service minyan each week (led by the Rabbi and myself), followed at 9:30 with teens going to their own classes to study from the ISJL curriculum. At 11:00 AM, students would either be able to learn the order of service, Torah and trope, the meaning of each prayer, etc. in a format to help those who are not as comfortable with the Hebrew OR be a Madrichim and learn about leadership and classroom management.
Adult Education Opportunities
Our Congregational Learning Center is for all members. We are increasing our adult educational opportunities this year and look forward to having many offerings for you to choose from. We will be exploring Jewish education from a variety of different angles: from an Introduction to Judaism course on Tuesday evenings to our new Beit Midrash; we will offer a wide array of guest speakers (delving into topics ranging from anti-Semitism to Mental Health, Jewish parenting and spirituality) to offering adult learning adventures to Las Vegas!
This December we will be taking a trip to discover hands–on Thugs Who Knew Torah: a look at Jewish mobsters close up. For only $350* participants will get a behind–the– scenes look at the history of the community, two museum packages, transportation around town, a unique synagogue tour with a local cantor (and acclaimed Yiddish recording artist), a visit to the Red Rock canyon, buffet dinner, and a four night stay at the Treasure Island. (*airfare and additional meals are extra). For more information, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
